Plextor PX-708A DVD-Writer
Strengths: Speed & quality.
Weakness: Haven't found any yet.
I was first impressed with the quality of the construction when I installed it. The DVDs I have burned are all flawless and it really is fast! No problem burning at 8x with Memorex +R disks. Additionally. it is amazingly quiet which relates back to its superior construction. The Plextor is definitely worth the few extra bucks.

Strengths: Easy to setup and use. Once installed in drive bay was recognized right away. by computer on boot-up.
Weakness: None, so far.
Compared to our office Sony DVD burner works great. I have made three coasters trying to copy disc on the Sony and on the Plextor at home have had no problems. Burns at 8x without incident. Haven't had an opportunity to use the DVD burner yet, but plan to use it to backup DVDs that have some scratches from use. Strengths: Blazing speed, no coasters yet
Weakness: Only 2mb buffer, 8mb buffer would have been nicer
I have burned 3 DVD+Rs, re-written and formatted a DVD+RW many times, and about 20-25 CD-Rs and this thing has not spit out a single coaster. The speed is blazingly fast! I use Nero software, and can convert MP3s to audio and burn to a CD audio disc in less then 3 minutes. DVD burning takes about 10 minutes (but I am using a slower DVD+RW disc) but it has been accurate thus far. Plus the drive is...

Strengths: Burns dvd + disc at 8 speed on 4x cd`s with no problems,i use Nero,burned a 4.5 gig disc in just over 7 min,have not tried the -disc yet
Weakness: at this time none but a 8 meg buffer would of been nice

Plextor is a very reliable company. This is my second one purchased from them and both products have performed as advertised. I would buy from Plextor any time.
