The SanDisk Ultra II SD PLUS, an innovative SD flash memory card with built-in USB connectivity. Strengths: Tiny, Fast, does not require another external reader

Weakness: tiny, extra flap does not fold flat and might not fit into every USB port. Fits the standard ports on the back of the computer, but does not fit in the USB ports on the front of a Dell.

Fits the standard ports on the back of the computer, but does not fit in both of the USB ports on the front of a Dell. The one that it does fit in, it blocks the other USB port. The little flap just physically gets in the way of the computer housing. I would still buy another one the next time I need another SD card. Sandisk Ultra II Plus: SD Memory With A Twist

Strengths: Fast, fast, fast! Built-in USB interface.

Weakness: None.

I recently purchased a Nikon D50 dSLR and needed some SD memory to go with it since the camera wasn't supplied with any. I wanted reasonably fast memory capable of taking advantage of the D50's quick internal memory bus and hi-speed external USB 2.0 interface. I also planned to buy a SD card reader so I wouldn't have to tether the camera to my PC while uploading the day's shooting. My other Sandisk memory products (Ultra II CF and PCMCIA reader) have proven to be both fast and reliable, so I decided to weigh their SD offerings against my needs. That's when I discovered Sandisk's latest SD entry, the Ultra II Plus 2-in-1 memory card.

At first, the Ultra II Plus SD card doesn't look any different from its non-Plus designated siblings. In both form and fit, it is the same as any other SD card. But the Ultra II Plus comes with a unique and surprising additional feature not found amongst the competition: this card, hinged at the middle, folds in half to become a flash drive complete with its own USB A-type interface. No need for a separate card reader or adapter - just insert the Ultra II Plus into any USB port and the card is immediately recognized as an external drive and is ready for file transfer.

Sandisk claims read/write speeds of 9MB/s and 10MB/s respectively for this 512MB 60/66x card and, using the industry standard (and somewhat controversial) 1000 bytes/kB conversion, these numbers are not an exaggeration: I was able to store 92 5.2MB RAW images (502MB) from the D50 and transfer them to my hard drive via the PC's USB 2.0 port in just under 55 seconds (9.1 MB/s).

I was initially concerned about the reliability of what seemed to be a delicate hinge mechanism. I had concerns about whether it would be able to hold up to repeated use. At least so far, I'm comfortable to say that it seems to have been well engineered and tested. And besides, the Ultra Plus II comes with a lifetime warranty, so I can readily recommend this memory as a safe buy.

More Storage and Filming Capability!

Strengths: Longer video filming time. More pictures taken. Built-in USB makes for hassle free transfer to computer.

Weakness: Not sure how long lasting having the usb is considering you need to bend it in half to use it. Quite unique though. Had a little trouble trying to bend it because I was too scared of breaking it.

Really like that it has the usb built-in and still works fine as a memory card in the digital camera. Originally quite skeptical about the functionality, but have used it back and forth as a memory card and then a usb. Only concern is how long does it last being bent in half after so many uses. Bought the Ultra because it was suppose to get rid of the delay in shutter speed we've been getting,...

Sandisk Ultra II SD Card

Strengths: The USB feature makes downloading images from any camera a breaze. The speed is top, no problem recording videos on my camera.

Weakness: NONE, maybe price

As all Sandisk devices that I have used, the item has been flawless. The Ultra II line is truely a life-saver. You know you're getting a reliable product with having to pay the price of an actual proffesional grade card. The speed is great when recording movies and the new USB feature is great with cameras that require drivers for Windows.
Overall I give it two thumbs up!!

Strengths: Built-in USB

This card is the same as the SanDisk 512MB Ultra II Secure Digital Card except it got the built-in USB. The built-in USB is handy for transferring picture from memory card to computer.
