Canon EOS 20D 8.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body...

Strengths: Outstanding 5 fps (with a fast card you can shoot > 50 straight); superb control over scene, parameter and function (n = 18); rugged yet ergonomic, esp. with new battery grip

Weakness: Somewhat loud shutter; probably not worth it for those fully satisfied with excellent hassle-free point & shoots (such as the Coolpix 5700) - if you can call that a weakness

If you expect to take this camera out of the box, turn it on without regard to factory default settings, strap on the flimsy (though adequate) 18-55 EF-S, shoot in automatic and expect to see magically enhanced images (aside from the MP increase) relative to an upper-end point & shoot, think twice before you buy this outstanding camera, because you will need to learn a little about digital SLR...

Canon EOS 20D 8.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body...

Strengths: Fast Auto Focus ,Super Fast Drive ,Easy of use.

Weakness: No Spot Meter

I got my 20D on Thursday and by Saturday I had shot over 500 images with it , I tested it out at a local Military airbase on some fast jets, ( F-16s and F-18s ) I have to said it passed with flying colors , it locked on in auto-focus and stay on as the jets zipped past me. Images were outstanding , this is my second digital camera and it was easy to get use to . If you shoot fast moving subjects...

Canon EOS 20D 8.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body...

Strengths: Very easy to use. Outstanding picture quality.

Weakness: A little heavy, but not bad.

Previously with digital cameras, I exclusively used Nikon. Back in the days of 35mm film cameras, I exclusively used Minolta. After lots of research, I decided to make the jump to Canon with this new digital camera and I am so glad that I did! So far I have been taking a lot of "test" pictures and have been very happy with the results. This camera is feature loaded, yet it's fairly simple to use....

Canon EOS 20D 8.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body...

Strengths: Light, very fast focusing, feels solid, excellent start up time, well thought out placement of controls, good starter lens and blazing fast frame rate.

Weakness: Loud shutter, slight rattling sound in the flash and CF door slightly loose.

Coming from a point and shoot camera, this is a big step up. Short story is that I got fed up with getting out of focus, burry pictures of my toddler son even with my decent point and shot camera. It looks good and feels solid in general. Given the obvious look of the camera, there are two annoying points. First is the slight rattle from the flash, same noise that I heard in the cheaper 300D and...

Canon EOS 20D 8.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body...

Strengths: Picture quality, speed, solid build, low noise at higher ISO settings.

Weakness: 18-55mm EF-S kit lens is not of high quality, feels cheap. Shooting with internal flash in auto mode produce underexposed pictures.

I bought the Canon 20D camera with 18-55mm EF-S kit lens two weeks ago and did some test and real shooting since then. It feels really nice in hands and works great. Noise is really low and even ISO 1600 setting is very usable. The kit lens is not of high quality but still very usable and I could get nice pictures using it. It's probably OK unless you're going to print bigger that 8x10". Anyway...

Canon EOS 20D 8.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body...

Strengths: wonderful digial SLR with great auto focus modes, built in flash, and user interface

Weakness: none that come to mind

I am a hobbyist photographer and have the need to take more than "snap shot" photos. I always try to achieve "art quality" photos in composition and quality. Here are the things that the 20D has that makes this possible: It is an SLR which means that I can see the composed photo in the eye piece. There is a 9 area focus mechanism which allows the camera to evaluate the correct focus point for...

Canon EOS 20D 8.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body...

Strengths: Low noise high iso, resolution, instant on, faster cf write speed, lower light focus, frame rate, weight, ef-s compatibility, higher in-camera flash, 9pt af, 1/250 flash sync, build quality, joystick

Weakness: Battery Grip does not fit well (wiggles and feels flimsy), no iso in viewfinder, no spot meter (has partial 9%), LOUD shutter, small lcd (would like 2-2.5")

Okay, I am an amateur/hobbist...but a bit of a perfectionist. My taste exceeds my actual talent at this point. I upgraded from the 10d, which was my first DSLR. Main reasons for my upgrade were: 1. lower noise on high iso images (ie: 1600 & 3200) 2. faster write speed to cf card - A LOT FASTER (4x) 3. frame rate (5fps vs 3fps) 4. improved buffer in JPG mode (can shoot nearly non-stop) 5. higher...

Canon EOS 20D 8.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body...

Strengths: Very high 8.2 megapixel quality photos and it lets you shoot many more frames per second than past 10D camera. Very good for moving pictures such as sports.

Weakness: Lens seens a little light and not quite fast enough.

For the price, it is a great camera. It gives everyone a chance to work on a pro-type camera and a consumer type price. I would buy it again. It is a great improvement on the 10D which was a very good camera. As it becomes more available, the price should go lower and even be a better deal.

Canon EOS 20D 8.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body...

Strengths: A nice upgrade from the 10d.

Weakness: None

I got this camera for Christmas. I was not expecting to upgrade from a 10D to a 20D, but it was definitely a nice surprise. I've been using it for about a month, so the following observations have been made over the past 30 days, and are mostly comparisons to the 10D. The very first thing you'll notice is startup time. My 10D took a couple seconds to start up - the 20D is on and ready to go in...

Canon EOS 20D 8.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body...

Strengths: Easy to use, uses all EOS Lenses, AWESOME picture quality (especially in RAW format), high # of frames per second (5).

Weakness: No preview of pic on the LCD, but this is true for almost all SLR digitals. The included lens doesn't work on a 35mm film camera (does not apply to the 17-85mm IS Lens).

I really cannot say anything bad about this camera. It takes excellent pictures at a high rate of speed. I would recommend more than 1GB for storage. You can get a 4GB microdrive for about $200 vs a 1GB 80x Compactflash for $120. It is definitely worth the extra money for a bigger memory card. The 4GB will only hold 270 images in the highest quality setting. This is definitely a camera worth...

DCRP Review: Canon EOS-20D

I'll be blunt: the Canon EOS-20D is the best reasonably priced digital SLR that I've tested. And by reasonably priced I meant under $2000. There's so much to like about the 20D, I don't know where to start. Photo quality is excellent, with photos having an ultra smooth look to them. Color and exposure were both accurate. Personally I'd crank the sharpness up another notch, but that's just me....

Canon EOS-20D

Canon has a history of making excellent digital SLRs, but the EOS-20D truly raises the bar for the entire market. In any attribute you might care to name -- color rendition, image noise, resolution, shooting speed, autofocus performance, on and on -- the EOS-20D defines the state of the art for its price range. While there are certainly other worthy digital SLRs selling for less than the 20D,...
